The Department of Information Management was founded in 1947, which is one of China's earliest established teaching units cultivating talents of information management, and once owned Mr. Wang Zhongmin, Mr. Liu Guojun and other leading academic master.

The Department has a number of well-known professors and experts in information management, including 10 professors, 15 associate professors and a number of well-known domestic and foreign part-time and visiting professors.

For the undergraduates, the department offers 2 specialities: Information management & information systems and library science, Granting Bachelor’ degree of Management after 4 academic years.

Information Management & Information System cultivates high-level expertises who are equipted with the basic knowledge and applying ability of modern management science and information science and technology, and systematically grasp the basic theory and skills of information management, and analyzing and designing methods of information systems, and can engage in the information (resources, systems and network) management in national, industrial and commercial enterprises , financial institutions, research institutes and information institutions. The main course of the speciality are: Introduction to Computing, data structures, introduction to information management, programming languages, database systems, information organization, surveys and statistical methods, information storage and retrieval, information policy and regulations, information analysis and decision-making, information services, computer networks, digital libraries, information systems analysis and design, management information systems, management theory, information economics, Chinese information processing, multimedia technology, marketing, information security, network management, e-commerce, and etc.

Library Science: Library is an important institutions to disseminate cultural knowledge and information of human, and is the heart of social culture, playing an increasingly important role in social information process. The speciality cultivates senior specialized talents that have theoretical knowledge of library science and ability of managing and utilizing literature by modern techniques of information, and can engaged in management and information services in libraries and information agencies. The main courses of the speciality are: Introduction to Computing, data structures, introduction to information management, programming languages, database systems, information organization, surveys and statistical methods, information storage and retrieval, information policy and regulations, information analysis and decision-making, information services, computer networks, digital libraries, Western text books, library management, cataloging, library automation, information resources, Chinese ancient resources, management theory, information economics, Chinese information processing, multimedia technology and etc.

The Department has established communication and cooperation relationship with many institutions overseas, and many teachers visit universities in Europe, America, Japan and other countries as a visiting scholar each year. Students also have many exchange visits. The majority of the graduates continue their studies, while part of them go to study abroad, and only a small part choose to work in companies, agencies and other units.
