Senior Visiting Student Program

Program Introduction
Candidates must have attained at least a Master’s degree. Senior Visiting Students are normally supervised by a professor of the accepting college or department to conduct research in a specific subject. The program is one year, however, upon request the student may be considered for an extension. Upon graduation, the student will receive a certificate of achievement.

Application Prerequisites
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under the age of 50, have attained at least a master’s degree.

Application Process
1. Online Registration
1.1. Please register your details on
http://www.studyatpku.com . Please fill in the application form, submit and also print a hardcopy for reference.
2. Submit Application Materials
2.1. After completing the Peking University Application Form for International Students on-line please print and attach a passport-style photograph.
2.2. Certification of highest degree attained, and official academic transcripts (original documents or certified copies, either in Chinese or English).
2.3. Two letters of reference from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letter must be the original document, either in Chinese or English, and not a copy, scan or email.
2.4. Research proposal (no less than 1000 characters, in Chinese or English)
2.5. Certificate of Chinese proficiency level, e.g. HSK (If applicable).
2.6. One photocopy of your current valid passport (ID page) (passport type must be ordinary).
Note: Two copies of the above mentioned application materials are required, one original and one duplicate. Your application documents will not be returned.

When to Apply
March 1-31

Application Fee
400 RMB, aid in cash, by Yinlian bank card or through online payment. Any other currency or travel check would not be accepted. The application fee is not refundable.
Note: Applications with incomplete materials or without application fee will not be considered.

Admission
Admission will be determined according to your educational background and academic achievement by the departments or faculty. Upon acceptance, the University will send you the ‘Admission Notification’ as well as the ‘Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW202)’ by the end of June.

Registration Period
In early September of the application year (specified in the Admission Notification)

Tuition Fee (per year per person)
Science Subjects: 34,000 RMB    Humanities: 30,000 RMB

Medical Insurance
Peking University’s regulations require that all international students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students on the day of registration. Students who do not have valid medical insurance will not be allowed to register.

Self-funded Students are required to find their own living accommodation. Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station within 24 hours.

Visa Information
Students admitted to PKU may apply for your visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country with your letter of admission and JW202 form. International students who will study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain ‘X1’ Visa, which will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival in China. You must come to the International Students Division and apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China. Students who study at PKU for less than 6 months can apply for X2 visa.
