Experiencing Confucian Culture at its Source

Publish:2017-11-02 00:00:00

China is a country with a long history and vast territory, and each city and province has its own unique history and culture. Confucius and Mencius, the founders of Confucianism, as well as Mozi, the founder of the Mohist School, and the military expert Wu Qi were all born in "Lu Guo" (鲁国), what is today Shandong Province.

In order to help students better understand and appreciate Chinese history and Confucian culture, the International Students Division of PKU organized nearly sixty students to visit Qufu city and Mount Tai in Shandong on October 14th and 15th.

The students thus experienced the magnificence of the first of China's "Five Great Mountains" (五岳), which are Mount Tai 泰山 in Shandong; Mount Heng 衡山 in Hunan; Mount Hua 华山 in Shaanxi; Mount Heng 恒山 in Shanxi; and Mount Song 嵩山 in Henan.

From the trip I gained a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, the Confucian values within Chinese society.
