In 2001, the Ministry of Education, along with State Development Planning Commission granted Peking University and other 34 universities the permission to experiment with schools of software based on approval document Jiaogao [2001] No. 6. Approved by such a document, at the 451st Presidents’ Official Meeting of Peking University held on March 15, 2002, decided to setup the School Of Software, Peking University. The mission is to meet the requirements of economic structure adjustment, as well as talent demands of software industry development, and to achieve the leaping development of software engineering education in China.
Based upon the document Jiaogao[2003] No. 2, issued by the Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Science and Technology (in approving the establishment of “Nation Training Base for IC Talent, Peking University”), it was decided at the 531st President’s Official Meeting (April 20, 2004) that “Nation Training Base for IC Talent, Peking University” would be merged into “School Of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University”.
In December 2003, in the mid-term assessment of the 35 software schools nationwide organized by the Ministry of Education, School of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University was ranked number 1 in the comprehensive evaluation, and was honored as” the role model of role models”. The school won “First Prize of Education Achievement in Peking University” on November 9, 2004, and “National First Prize of Education Achievement” in September, 2005.
School of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University was born with the goal to make it one of the top-rank software schools all over the world. Beijing one of Peking University’s school is managed by the dean under the leadership of the school council, explores a new management system and operating mechanism to collaborate with famous universities and well-known enterprises in the nation and abroad, and attracts social resources and investments. It runs as an enterprise, professionalizes education, and socializes the logistics, with the goal of fostering advanced level, globalized talents with practical and multidisciplinary capabilities. School of Software and Microelectronics, Diversification”, pursues of “Diligence, Precisness Truth-seeking and Innovation”. School of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University’s mission is “Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Demond Oriented and Qualith First”.
Nowadays, a comprehensive talent fostering entity has been formed, which includes one school (School of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University), two disciplines (Software Engineering, and IC Design and Engineering), and three bases (National Training Base for International Software Talents, National Training Base for IC Design Talents, Engineering Base of National Engineering Research Center for Software Engineering) and 8 Departments (Departments of Software Technologies, Department of Embedded Systems Engineering, Department of e-Services, Department of Management and Technology, Department of IC and Engineering, Department of Digital Art and Design, and Department of Financial Information Engineering).
