Peking University International Students Applying for Internship Annotation on Residence Permit
(For Non-Degree Program Students Only)
According to the rules of the "Regulations on the Administration of Entry and Exit of Foreigners of the People's Republic of China", if a foreigner holds a residence permit for study and needs to work or intern outside of school, he/she should apply to the Public Security Bureau for internship annotation upon approval from the school/university.
The following regulation is applicable to non-degree program international students engaged in off-campus internship activities.
1. Application Qualifications:
(1) Full-time international visiting students who are officially enrolled in the university-wide/department-level student exchange programs for full-year exchange.
(2) Holding a residence permit for study.
(3) Applicants have completed the first semester of study and passed all registered courses. The class attendance record is good, and record of absence should not exceed a quarter of the total hours of a course.
(4) Applicants enrolled in the School of Chinese as a Second Language have not taken any undergraduate/graduate courses in the second semester. Applicants enrolled in undergraduate/graduate courses should take courses of no less than 6 credits and no more than 10 credits in total in the second semester.
(5) The applicant must have no record of misconduct, no violation of either university rules and regulations or relevant regulations for international students, no record of disciplinary punishment, no violation of Chinese laws, and no record of punishment by the judicial department or the public security bureau.
(6) Applicants are required to have obtained approval from the program office of their home university.
(7) The applicant has obtained the internship from the relevant enterprise/company.
2. Application Process:
Step 1: Submit the following application documents to the International Student Division:
(1) PKU International Student Application Form for Internship Annotation on Residence Permit” (click here to download);
(2) Internship agreement or contract provided by the company with specific information of internship period, location and work description;
(3) Internship approval letter from the program office of the applicant’s home university;
(4) The list of courses taken in the second semester.
Step 2: Successful applicants will receive the “Internship Approval Letter” from the International Student Division.
Step 3: Successful applicants submit the required materials to Beijing Public Security Bureau.
3. Required Materials by the Beijing Public Security Bureau:
(1) Visa Application Form, with official seals from both the International Students Division and the company.
(2) Valid temporary residence form from local police station/PKU Global Village.
(3) Peking University’s Internship Approval Letter.
(4) The company’s consent letter (click here to download the format).
4. NOTES:
(1) The internship period should not exceed the study period at Peking University. Each internship annotation on the residence permit must not exceed six months.
(2) Once the applicant changes an internship, she/he must re-apply for the internship annotation on the residence permit.
(3) If the applicant has a significant decline in academic performance during the internship or has had a considerable amount of absences from class or violation of school rules and regulations or Chinese law, then the school has the right to cancel the internship annotation.
(4) International students who withdraw from the university during the internship period must cancel their residence permit and internship annotation as required.
