Application Guide for Peking University International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2021 - General Visiting/Yuke (Pre-university) Students

INTRODUCTION:

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as Center) launched the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as Scholarship). Designated institutions may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study in Peking University.

 

CRITERIA:

a) non-Chinese citizens;

b) in good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;

c) committed to the Chinese language education and related work;

d) in principle aged between 18 and 35;

e) Study duration and the program chosen in the scholarship application system:

Applicants for One-Academic Year Program (currently not in China):

1. Chinese Language and Literature: Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level);

2. Chinese Language Study: Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). HSKK test score providers will be first considered;

*According to the educational background, the following items can be applied for by applicants of one-academic year program in Peking University:

1) Undergraduate students or those with bachelor’s degree or above can apply for general visiting students program;

Applicants for One-Semester Program (no experience in studying in China): 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

NOTICE:

l No matter what direction is applied for in the scholarship system, scholarship holders will study Chinese as a general visiting/Yuke student in the School of Chinese as a Second Language.

l Affected by the epidemic situation, the immigration policy and teaching methods (online/ on-site) of 2021-2022 academic year shall be subject to the latest regulations.

 

CONTENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP:

1. Exempt from tuition;

2. Accommodation: Peking University provides twin rooms at Zhongguanyuan Global Village on campus;

3. Monthly Allowances: 2500RMB;

4. Comprehensive insurance fee.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

1. Online Application:

1.1 Applicants should visit the PKU Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), register and log in. Fill in the application form and submit. Then download the pdf version of application form, print it, sign your name and attach photo.

1.2 Applicants should log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at cis.chinese.cn, set up an individual account, complete and submit the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Form online. Print the form.

2. Submit Application Materials via China Post (EMS) mail:

Applicants should submit the following application materials or send them by post to the International Students Division of Peking University:

2.1 Application Form of PKU Admission for Foreign Students (Visiting Student) with your signature and one photo on it;

2.2 Application Form of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship;

2.3 Certification of highest degree attained or Certificate of Enrollment at University, and official academic transcripts (original documents or certified copies, either in Chinese or English);

2.4 Two letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letters must be original documents, either in Chinese or English;

Note: One of the two letters can be a recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions (please provide objective comments on the applicant, including whether the applicant is a student of Confucius Institute or other identity. Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter provided by the institutes they work for.)

2.5 Score reports of the HSK, HSKK or BCT, BCT (Speaking). Winners of the finals of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions may submit the award certificate and the “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” (Copy Version);

2.6 One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary);

2.7 Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.

Note: Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed.

Your applications and documents will not be returned.

ADMISSION:

Applicants will be selected to the second round of examination on your educational background and the academic achievement. The admission will be determined on the second round of exam. The University will send you the admission result via email in June or July.
