Do Sports, Have Fun!Fun Sports Day for International Students

1. Time and Date:
Date: Saturday, October 15, 2016
Where: No.1 Gymnasium, May 4th Playground Football Field
2. Competition Teams and Events:
1. Group A: 6-A-Side Soccer: October 15, 8am-2pm – May 4th Playground
2. Group B: Events of Interest (6 Events): October 15, 1pm-5pm– The First Playground
(1) Sea Dragon (5 Gents, 5 Ladies)
(2) Whirlwind Run (4 Gents, 2 Ladies)
(3) Caterpillar Race (4 Gents,4 Ladies)
(4) Team Bench (4 Gents,4 Ladies)
(5) Concentric Drum (5 Gents,5Ladies)
(6) Tug of War (Unlimited team members & non-point based)
3. Ways to Participate:
(1) Participation Requirements:
1. An officially enrolled Peking University international student and in good health.
2. Freely register to participate.
3. Must have already purchased international student insurance at time of sports day.
(2) Teams and Registration Numbers:
1. Participants on the day are divided into A group and B group. A group are the 6-A-Side Soccer participants and B group are Events of Interest participants.
2. The number of team members for each A group team cannot exceed that of 10. The number of team members for each B group team cannot exceed that of 12.
3. A group participants must register in teams (6-10 members).
4. B group participants can register collectively or individually, whereby they will be assigned a team comprising 12 members on the day of the event.
(3) Registration Procedure:
1. Send a registration email to: isosportspku@163.com Include in the title your student ID + Surname + A group or B group and leave a contact number and email address.
2. Those registering for A group 6-A-Side Soccer, please nominate a captain who will be the contact person for the team.
3. Those registering for the B group competition please state whether or not you would like to be a team captain on the day of the event.
4. Competition Layout:
(1) 6-A-Side Soccer:
1. Each match will last 40 minutes, and will be played in two halves.
2. Depending on the number of teams registered, elimination rounds will follow the pool rounds until the top 3 teams are determined.
(2) Events of Interest:
Sea Dragon
Team members: 5 Gents&5Ladies. Total of 10.
Equipment: 9 X one meter long rope, provided by the Organizing Committee.
Rules:
A. All team members stand side by side in a row, and then use a short piece of rope to tie their own ankles to that of their neighbor, before moving laterally 30 meters. E.g.: All team members are facing west, so they must move in a southerly direction.
B. The team has completed the race only when the last team member in the line has crossed the finish line.
C. If in the process, the rope tying the ankles of team members together is loosened or the adhesive tape is broken, then the team is disqualified.
Whirlwind Run
Team members: 4 Gents &2 Ladies. Total of 6.
Equipment: Horizontal rod of 3 meters in length.
Rules:
A. 6 people stand at the starting line with a pole, setting off only at the sound of the whistle. Before continuing to run, the entire team must rotate 360 degrees around the team member standing first from the left-side of the line. Then, the entire team must rotate 360 degrees around the team member standing first from the right-side of the line. The third rotation is 180 degrees from the point of the team member first from the left with the entire team running back towards the starting point. The next rotation is 360 degrees from the point of the team member first from the right with the entire team running back towards the starting point. The last rotation is 360 degrees from the point of the team member first from the left, before the entire team runs for the finish line.
B. The team who crosses the finish line (the original starting point) with the quickest time wins.
C. All participants must hold the pole with both hands at all times. A participant who lets go off the pole at any point during the race is considered in violation of the rules, and the entire team will be disqualified.
Caterpillar Race
Team members: 4 Gents&4 Females. Total of 8.
Equipment: Inflatable caterpillar.
Rules:
Team members (depending on the equipment available) sit on the caterpillar, move forward 25 meters before returning to the starting point. Each team member must maintain their position on the caterpillar throughout the race. The race is considered finished only when the tail of the caterpillar has crossed the line, with the team finishing in the quickest time winning. Multiple teams will be racing at the same time. Any team who interferes with that of another team will lose points. While racing, cooperate with your team and pay attention to yours’ and other’s safety.
Team Bench
Team members: 5 Gents &5 Ladies. Total of 10
Rules:
A. Team members link arms and move up and down simultaneously on 35-40cm high steps.
B. Team members must move up and down at the same time, and stand straight to be considered as completing one segment.
C. Team members must enter the designated area – 2cm from the edge of the step and 5cm below the steps under the steps of the out-of-bounds zone.
D. Each segment is to be completed within 1 minute, and scores and ranking will be awarded depending on whether the team has satisfied the requirements.
Concentric Drum
Team members: 5 Gents &5 Ladies. Total of 11
Equipment: Concentric drum, volleyball
Rules:
10 team members pull on the concentric drum’s strings, with the volleyball bouncing from the drum at the center. Each bounce of the ball must be no less than 30cm high. The team able to bounce the ball the most times consecutively within 2 minutes is the winner. The ball must not hit the ground. Each time the ball hits the ground, the team must begin again. Teams can assign a person to pick up the ball when it hits the ground. Each team must not take up more than 30 meters in diameter.
Tug of War
Equipment: Tug of war rope.
Team members: No limit; 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 ……a group or 2, 4, 6, 8, 10……a group to be matched with a team of equal team members.
The Tug of War competition is a non-point based competition.
5. Placement and Distribution of Awards:
(1) The top 3 soccer teams will be awarded prizes.
(2) Points scored collectively over the 5 score-based Events of Interest will be totalled in order to determine the category’s top 3.
