INTRODUCTION:

For the purpose of further training the overseas Chinese Language teachers and the backup, and building a team of outstanding local teachers with high teaching standards, which is in compatible with the development of international Chinese Language education, in consideration of the practical need overseas, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the Center) established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship BRI - Local Chinese Language Teacher Improvement Program”. The designated organizations can recommend outstanding students and Chinese teachers in active service to pursue further studies of Chinese at Peking University.

FUNDING CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

a) PhD in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: Graduates with a master’s degree in Chinese as a foreign language (CFL), linguistics, Chinese international education or education-related majors, full-time and part-time Chinese teachers in service.

b) Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: Graduates with a bachelor's degree in Chinese international education or Chinese related majors, full-time and part-time Chinese teachers, or fourth-year undergraduates in Chinese related majors with the intention of teaching Chinese.

c) One-year training in the related field of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: Bachelor's degree or above, graduate of Chinese international education or Chinese language related majors.

CRITERIA:

a) non-Chinese citizens;

b) full-time and part-time Chinese teachers, fresh graduates of Chinese international education or Chinese related majors, etc. from countries of BRI and countries that have incorporated Chinese into their national education system. Previous holders of International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship are preferred;

c) in good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;

d) with the intentional of engaging in Chinese language education, teaching and related work;

e) in principle aged between 18 and 45;

f) Chinese Language Proficiency Requirements:

PhD and Mater in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: Scored above 210 on the HSK (Level 6), with a minimum score of 65 in writing and reading, Chinese language skills reach or near the level of native Chinese speakers.

One-year training in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages:

Please apply for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in the scholarship system. Scored above 270 on the HSK (Level 3) and provide HSKK scores.

NOTICE:

Affected by the epidemic situation, the border policy and teaching methods (online/on-site) of 2022-2023 academic year shall be subject to the latest regulations.

1. Tuition exemption;

2. Accommodation on Zhongguanyuan Global Village on campus;

3. Monthly allowances;

4. Comprehensive insurance fee for study in China.

Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: 2 years

Training in the related field of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: 1 year

1. Online Application:

1.1 Applicants should visit the PKU Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), register and log in. Fill in the application form and submit. Then download the pdf version of application form, print it;

c) Training in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages: Application - Non-Degree Programs - International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship - General Visiting Student Program or FAST PASS: ICLTS-GVS

1.2 Register personal account on the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn), fill in the application information and submit, print the  International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Form.

2. Submit Application Materials via China Post (EMS) mail:

2.1 Print the Application Form of PKU Admission for Foreign Students with your signature and one photo on it after the registration;

2.2 Print the Application Form of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship after the registration;

2.3 Certification of highest degree attained or Certificate of Enrollment at University, and official academic transcripts (original documents or certified copies, either in Chinese or English)；

* Please provide Certificate of Enrollment at University if you are studying in school, or Certification of highest degree if you have graduated.

2.4 School transcripts, should be original document in English or Chinese or notarized translated document;

2.5 Two letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letters must be original documents, either in Chinese or English;

Note: One of the two letters can be a recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions

2.6 Score reports of the HSK;

2.7 Score reports of the HSKK (Those who apply for the Chinese language training program in the scholarship system do not have to submit this document);

2.8 One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary)；

2.9 Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China；

2.10 Applicants for master's and doctoral degrees must also provide a Personal Statement (about 1500 words for master's degree and 3000 words for doctoral degree) that briefly describes their academic background and highlights their research plans for the graduate studies in the lecturing language of the program they are applying for. 2.11 Chinese teachers in active service must submit a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation from the institution where they are employed.

Note: Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed. Your applications and documents will not be returned.

ADMISSION:

Applicants will be selected to the second round of examination on your educational background and the academic achievement. The admission will be determined on the second round of exam. The University will send you the admission result via email in June or July.
