2016Confucius Institute Scholarship Program Application Information-General Visiting Student

INTRODUCTION:
For the purpose of supporting the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitating international promotion of Chinese language and dissemination of Chinese culture, as well as cultivating qualified Chinese-language teachers and excellent Chinese-language learners, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) launches a “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to sponsor foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese in relevant universities of China.
ELIGIBILITY
The scholarship is oriented at outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), overseas local Chinese language teachers, Chinese language major students, excellent performers in HSK test and winners of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students.
CRITERIA
1. Non-Chinese citizens;Aged between 16 and 35, International students who are now studying in China are not eligible for the scholarship;
2. One-Academic Year Study Students:Applicant should have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and 60 in HSKK test (Beginner Level). Alternatively, applicant should hold a minimum score of 180 in BCT (A), and a minimum score of 180 BCT (Speaking);
One-Semester Study Students: Applicant should have no prior experience of studying in China, but have a minimum score of 120 in HSK Test (Level 2), and a minimum score of 40 in HSKK (Beginner Level). Alternatively, applicant should have a minimum score of 100 in BCT (A), and a minimum score of 120 in BCT (Speaking).
CONTENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
1. Exempt from tuition;
2. Accommodation: Peking University provides twin rooms at Zhong Guan Xin Yuan (the Global Village) on campus;
3. Monthly Allowances: 2500RMB;
4. Comprehensive insurance fee.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1. Online Application:
1.1Applicants should visit the PKU Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), register and log in. Fill in the application form and submit. Then download the pdf version of application form, print it, sign your name and attach photo.
Steps: Application - Non-Degree Programs- Confucius Institute Scholarship Program – Apply
1.2Applicants should log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at cis.chinese.cn, set up an individual account, complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online. Print the form.
2. Submit ApplicationMaterials:
Applicants should submit the following application materials or send them by post to the International Students Division of Peking University:
2.1Application Form of PKU Admission for Foreign Students (Visiting Student)with your signature and one photo on it;
2.2 Application Form of Confucius Institute Scholarship;
2.3 Certification of highest degree attained or Certificate of Enrollment at University, and official academic transcripts (original documents or certified copies, either in Chinese or English);
2.4 Two letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letters must be original documents, either in Chinese or English;
Note: One of the two letters can be a recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions (please provide objective comments on the applicant, including whether the applicant is a student of Confucius Institute or other identity. Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter provided by the institutes they work for.)
2.5 Score reports of the HSK, HSKK or BCT, BCT (Speaking). Winners of the finals of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions may submit the award certificate and the “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” (Copy Version);
2.6 One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary);
2.7Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
Note: Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed.
Your applications and documents will not be returned.

ADMISSION:
Admission will be determined according to your educational background and the academic achievement. Upon acceptance, the University will send you emailat the end of June and send the ‘Admission Notification’ as well as the ‘Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW202)’ early in July by post.
