2015 Confucius Institute Scholarship-General Visiting Student

INTRODUCTION:
For the purpose of supporting the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitating international promotion of Chinese language and dissemination of Chinese culture, as well as cultivating qualified Chinese-language teachers and excellent Chinese-language learners, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) launches a “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to sponsor foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese in relevant universities of China.
ELIGIBILITY
The scholarship is oriented at outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), overseas local Chinese language teachers, winners of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students, excellent foreign college students majored in Chinese.
CRITERIA
1. Non-Chinese citizens; Aged between 16 and 35;
2. One-Academic Year Students: Applicants should achieve a score of at least 180 on the HSK (level 3) and at least 60 on the HSKK (primary level), or at least 180 on the BCT (A) and at least 180 on the BCT (spoken Chinese);One-Semester Students: Applicants should achieve a score of at least 120 on the HSK (level 2) and at least 40 on the HSKK (primary level), or at least 100 on the BCT (A) and at least 120 on the BCT (spoken Chinese).
CONTENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
1. Exempt from tuition;
2. Accommodation: Peking University provides Twin rooms at Zhong Guan Xin Yuan (the Global Village) on campus;
3. Monthly Allowances: 2500RMB;
4. Comprehensive insurance fee.APPLICATION PROCEDURES

1. Online Application:
1.1 Applicants should visit the PKU Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), register and log in. Fill in the application form and submit. Then download the pdf version of application form, print it, sign your name and attach photo.Steps: Application - Non-Degree Programs Application – General Visiting Students Program (G) – Group Program (G3) - Confucius Institute Scholarship Program – Apply
1.2 Applicants should log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn, set up an individual account, read information and introduction of host institutes and majors, complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online. Print the form.

2. Submit Application Materials:
Applicants should submit the application materials or send them by post to the International Students Division of Peking University.
The application materials are as follows:
2.1 Application form of PKU Admission for foreign students (General Visiting Student) with your signature and one photo on it;
2.2 Application form of Confucius Institute Scholarship with your signature and one photo on it;
2.3 Certification of highest degree attained or Certificate of Enrollment at University, and official academic transcripts (original documents or certified copies, either in Chinese or English);
2.4 Two letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letters must be original documents, either in Chinese or English;
2.5 Certificate of Chinese proficiency level, including HSK\HSKK report;
2.6 A personal statement;
2.7 One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary);
2.8 Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
2.9 Winners of the finals of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in China shall submit the certificate of scholarship. Winners of preliminary rounds of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions in their countries shall submit award proof and a reference letter from the Chinese Embassy (or Consulate) in the competition area.

Note: Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed.

ADMISSION:
Admission will be determined according to your educational background and the academic achievement. Upon acceptance, the University will send you email at the end of June and send the ‘Admission Notification’ as well as the ‘Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW202)’ early in July by post.
