The Pre-University Program (“PUP”) of Peking University aims to provide those outstanding high school graduates who are interested in studying at Peking University as undergraduates with 1-2 years of preparatory Chinese and mathematics training. Based on the superior educational background of PKU, PUP pays equal attention to the training of language knowledge and language ability. It aims to improve students' comprehensive ability to use Chinese. It also broadens students' knowledge and their academic field of vision and cultivates students' ability of independent thinking and learning, which can lay a solid basis for a future undergraduate study in the aspect of language and other professional fields.
After the pre-university program, those who have good grades and good behavior can be given priority in the undergraduate admission process.
[Application prerequisites]
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens;
2. Age under 23 years old;
3. Applicants must have attained a high school diploma (this does not include ordinary high schools in China and it does not include China's ordinary high school's international division programs);
[Curriculum]
Chinese Language (20 hours per week): Compulsory Course. Chinese Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, Chinese Integrated Curriculum for Academic Purpose, Chinese Special Curriculum for Academic Purpose.
Mathematics (4 hours per week): Elective Course. Including elementary mathematics course and senior mathematics course.
Lectures on Chinese Culture (2 hours per week): Elective Course
[Study Plan and Undergraduate Program Major]
Students should take placement tests of Chinese Language and Math after registration. Students should choose their Study Plan (N\E\S) depending on their test result and intended undergraduate program major. Detailed information of these three plans as follows:

[How to Apply]
1. Application Period: March 1 to April 30, 2019
2. Applicants should first visit the PKU Online Application System (http://www.studyatpku.com), fill in the application form and submit, then print a hardcopy for reference.
3. Applicants should come in person with your valid passport to the Pre-University Program Office to submit the application materials or send them by mail. The application materials are as follows:
● One hardcopy of the Application Form with your signature and one photo on it;
● A high school graduation/pre-graduation certificate/diploma (original documents or notarized copies. If the documents are not in English or Chinese, they must be translated and the translations must be verified by an official party, such as a government agency or diplomatic mission)
● Official and complete transcripts in Chinese or in English (original documents or notarized copies. If the documents are not in English or Chinese, they must be translated and the translations must be verified by an official party, such as a government agency or diplomatic mission);
● A personal statement (Chinese or English. No less than 500 words. It should explain your educational background, your motivation for studying in the PUP program, your experience studying Chinese, and an explanation of your current Chinese language level.);
● One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary);
● Application fee of 400RMB (paid in cash at the International Students Division finance office or during the online application process). The payment is non-refundable.
● Other optional materials: any college entrance examination results in your own country, certificates of any awards received, HSK results, or any other materials you believe that will be an asset to your application (can be copy version).

* Applications with incomplete materials or without application fee will not be processed. No materials will be returned. After reviewing the above materials, Peking University reserves the right to ask for other related materials and to arrange interviews with applicants.
[Tuition Fee]
36,000CNY/Academic Year
Students are required to pay the tuition fee of the whole year on the registration day.
[Admission Notice]
Once approved, applicants will receive a notification of admission by the end of May or in June. Please check your email frequently. We will contact you via email during the whole application period.
[Housing]
Twin Room, Zhongguanyuan Global Village
Address: No. 126 Zhongguanyuan North Street, Haidian District, Beijing (Metro Station East Gate of PKU).
Room Rent: About 80CNY/per person/per day
Note: The apartment is reserved as the dormitory of PUP students. Every PUP student should live in the apartment during the study period.
[Medical Insurance]
According to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, all international students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students provided by Ping An insurance company on the day of registration, which has been recognized and recommended by the Ministry of Education of China. Students who do not have valid medical insurance are not allowed to register.
[Visa Information]
Students admitted to PKU may apply for their visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their country with their letter of admission and JW201/202 form. International students who will study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain an ‘X1’ Visa, which will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival in China. You must come to the International Students Division and apply for a Residence Permit within these 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China.
